Fri 12/27/2002 - Again a new table Today the new furniture for the lanai arrived and they are so great... and big. We need to get the bigger cage soon, now, don't we? ... see the pictures... (2) Thu 12/26/2002 - Finally... Every piece of furniture seems to have its place now. Now comes the fun part the decorating tasks: lighting, window treatment, pictures on the wall.. Those things take time. We are still amazed about the size of this place. ... see the pictures... (9) Wed 12/25/2002 - Merry Christmas Tue 12/24/2002 - Christmas Eve Fondue We spent a great evening with our friends, Birgit & Mario, Mike and Mirjam eating fondue for four hours, beef, chicken and Mirjam's meatball with five different sauces and some vegetable. After that we had Coffee and chocolate cake a la Michael with Orange marmalade and Kalua. A great time spent! .... still some picture missing... ... see the pictures... (4) Wed 12/18/2002 - More Views.. The Morning light is a daily wonder. Morning fog is very rare and we are glad we caught the light!Christian tried out backyard fishing. Blue Gills is their name and eat Italian bread, don't like the crust though. ... see the pictures... (4) Tue 12/10/2002 - First Christmas Lights ever How do you put them up? And much would you need? Do you want mixed colors or plain white? We learnt that you buy Christmas lights after Christms for the following year so this year we held it quite simple. It was difficult enought to figure our how to do it. ... see the pictures... (2) Sat 12/07/2002 - Flowers around the House Soon we well make friends and know them by name ... see the pictures... (4) Fri 11/29/2002 - Unpacking... Images from the Chaos The long journey of unpacking is on. New furnitures move in with us, too. The work is evenly devided: Birgit has to unpack and arrange all the books on Livin area, Christian's office and her own office. Christian organizes the Kitchen ... see the pictures... (6) Tue 11/26/2002 - Moving Day Four man high, the movers came at 8:00 am and packed everything. The ultimate count was 150 boxes, those who know us well won't believe that we actually had less stuff than when we moved from German to Naples four years agao when the ultimate count was 180. So we we weren't the least scarred when we realized the the moving company had a smaller truck.} ... see the pictures... (5) Sat 11/23/2002 - Painting On Saturday with the help of very good friends we painted the garage floor, part of the master bath and Birgit's office. First meal at the new house: Pizza from Domino's down the road - and first phone number on the fridge ... see the picture (1) Thu 11/21/2002 - And now it's ours ... Closing was on Thursday, November 21th 2002. Now it's really 'our' house (weel actually most of it belongs to the bank but who would want to be picky at a moment like this) ... see the pictures... (9) Sat 11/09/2002 - Kitchen and Bathrooms are finished As we are nearing the closing (planned for November 21st) the last bits and pieces are put in place ... see the pictures... Sun 09/29/2002 - Cabinets and more Wed 09/25/2002 - Tiles all over the place, literally Fri 09/20/2002 - White Walls Sat 09/14/2002 - And Now in Living Colors ... They have put the stucco on the outside walls and now they have even painted it. We looked at it Friday evening and it was all grey and now (Saturday afternoon) it is all in colors. On the inside you can no longer look through the walls, all the dry walls have been installed ... see the pictures... (6) Tue 09/10/2002 - Updated Inspection History Isn't it just wonderful to know that the roof is 100% hot mopped? That sounds so funny... We are still on our research mission to get all the technical terms figured out. ... see the picture (1) Sat 09/07/2002 - The insulation is in - the winter can come The insulation has been put into the roof and also on the walls. The dry-walls and roof tiles have been delivered and the door has been installed ... see the pictures... (6) Mon 09/02/2002 - The cable guy was here Now they have put in all the cables: electrical, tv, telephone. The house also has windows now. On the canal side they have taken out some more trees and bushes so that we have a really nice view now ... see the pictures... (6) Sun 08/25/2002 - Lots of new tubes - in all shapes and sizes Not much has changed on the outside except that they have started to work on the house of our neighbours to the left, which you cannot see (yet). However, on the inside you can now find all kinds of new tubes: plumbing and air-conditioning ... see the pictures... (5) Sun 08/18/2002 - Closer look on the inside - with see-through walls No changes have been made since the last entry (which was from Friday afternoon). Today we see pictures from the inside of the house. All the frames which define the walls are up and you can already get a pretty good idea of the size and the location of all the rooms ... see the pictures... (5) Fri 08/16/2002 - The roof waterproof & frames for inside walls Today's pictures are taken from outside the house only. Through the garage you can already see the first walls coming up inside the house. Also from what we can see the roof shouldn't leak anymore. ... see the pictures... (2) Sun 08/11/2002 - Roof panes all up We visited again our new home in the rain and the roof was almost not leaking. The first layer of cover is up and only small crack let the water through. Before we went out, Christian scared the hell out of Birgit as he brought the first five moving boxes into the appartment. Seems he is getting darn serious now. ... see the pictures... (7) Thu 08/08/2002 - The roof truss almost finished Take a last peek through the house at the tall pine trees. The next view will only be the cathedral ceiling of the living room. ... see the pictures... (5) Wed 08/07/2002 - Tie Beam approved Continuing the construction vocabulary lesson: 'Tie beam - a horizontal beam which joins the feet of the principals at wall head level'. We keep looking and learning. We may have pictures again on the weekend. Today I also found the Inspection history of our house: yesterday's "Stop Work Order has been lifted. ... see the picture (1) Tue 08/06/2002 - Stop Work Order Found some more progress and in our permits display a big red stop sign with the Stop Work Order issuds today. Missing 10 Day Spot Survey. We are not particularly worried as it is the builders concern to deal with it. ... see the pictures... (4) Sat 08/03/2002 - Outside walls are set This project progresses awfully fast. Now we can already walk in our own walls from corner to corner. ... see the pictures... (5) Wed 07/31/2002 - First Walk-through Today we were able to walk on our new floor. The slab has been poured at the beginning of the week and has already dried out. The workers have delivered the concrete blocks and distributed them strategically over the whole space. Sitting on the lanai in the shadow of the tall pines while birds are whistling was very nice. Oh I will miss it until we move in. We might need to add that we also received our new digital camera today and that we needed to practise a little ... see the pictures... Wooden frame in the dirt Starting to build the foundation ... see the pictures... (3) Wed 07/03/2002 - Final Permit issued Internet makes it possible to reveiw the whole Premit and Inspection process online. ... if you know the premit number. ... see the picture (1) Fri 06/28/2002 - The Jungle is going away The lot has been cleared and it's now more save to walk there. ... see the pictures... (3) Fri 06/07/2002 - Another visitor Next visitor in our jungle: The Other Birgit ... see the picture (1) Sat 06/01/2002 - Color Selection & Visitors In a three hour morning session with Margie Stein and Diane Pfaehler we did all the decisions. From roof tiles to the handles on the cabinets, from the floor tiles to the carpet quality and color and also all wall tiles, floor tiles for the bathrooms including the faucets. Upgrade here, standard there, choices, choices, choices. At around noon we were exhausted. In the afternoon our very first vistors stopped by at our lot on their way to the movies. Melody & Rob did their first inspection and had great advice regarding lanai extension. ... see the picture (1) Thu 05/30/2002 - Sales Agreement signed Finally we decided we can do it as in 'are able to afford it'. We would very much like having a house in Forest Park and we sure will enjoy having lanai out to the water. Thu 05/16/2002 - Lot secured: Wilderness 15 We just wanted to keep our options open while contemplating over the whole concept of getting our own property. We also needed some time to talk to our bank about the mortgage. The lot is totally covered by Brazilian Pepper. Some Cabbage Palms as well as some tall Pine Trees are inhabitants of our lot. ... see the pictures... (10) Sat 05/11/2002 - Love at First Site After a full morning looking at houses, locations and floor plans we finally ended up in Forest Park. We looked at a model, listened to the sound of I 75, something we did already all morning. We were in fact quite sensitive regarding street noise and such. Then we went to a lot where the house was almost finished and the landscaping was already done. Seeing all the fine and clean backyards at the canals.. we loved it, made us feel at home already.
